Fashion fearless, be prepared. Fall will be a new season for both men and women on campus this year. Through observations in magazines and clothing stores, I have discovered some trends that will turn you into one of the most fashionable students on campus.

No more butt crack. For several years low-rise and ultra-low rise jeans were so in-style. This year, women will find lots of high-waisted pants and skirts. The high-waisted pencil skirt will be a cute and sophisticated look. The straight-leg will be a very popular style for jeans, but other popular styles include wide-leg, flare and trouser.

Once you've stocked up on your high-waisted items match them up with a ruffled blouse. Off-centered and multi-layered ruffles will add a feminine touch to your look. Ribbons and buttons are also trendy ways to add some flavour to your shirts and jeans.

Layering is a great way to mix and match your unique style. For a more casual look, try layering a summer dress over a long sleeved t-shirt or dress. To spice it up when you go out on the weekends, wear a dress with straight-leg jeans or leggings with heels and a short jacket.

Both men and women will be sporting lots of vests (especially sweater vests) and scarves. Men can wear a buttoned-up vest layered over a collared shirt and jeans. Longer vests are more versatile for women; they can flaunt them over a dress, skirt or trousers and pull it together with a thin belt. When the weather gets colder, just add scarves to your ensemble.

Jeans, jeans, jeans for men. They can be worn with anything casual on the way to class or with a sports jacket or vest for a nicer occasion. Add some bling-bling with a big buckle on your belt.

Pair your jeans with an embellished graphic tee with metal studs and graphic prints that wrap around the back. If you're feeling a bit bored with t-shirts and jeans, try sporting sweaters and cardigans with unique patterns and stripes.

Fashion experts say the fall color scheme will include earthy tones and pastel colors.

"Think of russets and ochres and regal purples and eye-popping pinks," said fashion journalist Gill Hart. "The autumnal palette also includes earthy colors such as burnt orange and beige, with contrasting evergreens. Taking us from fall through to winter are muted metallics and soft grays, sophisticated and subtle."

Another trend to look to is going green. As we become more eco-conscious, so will our fashion trends. Buying ethically-made organic cotton t-shirts and clothing is a great way to support the environment and the workers that produce them.

Factory Green, an online clothing store run by college students from University of Missouri, has a lot of eco-friendly apparel made for college students. They sell a lot of cool graphic tees made out of organic cotton and bamboo and their average item is just about $20. They also have cute accessories like recycled purses, wallets and grocery totes.

Whatever look you have in mind this fall, you're bound to find a unique style that will get you strutting your model walk down the halls when classes begin.
