1. "Fallout 2" The Fallout role-playing game (RPG) games have always been known for being so massive that they are nearly impossible to finish entirely. More than that, Fallout games tend to be one long pop culture reference, and an extremely vulgar one at that. Basically, the games storyline revolves around finding an artifact that will save your small village from the desert of post-apocalyptic California. The game immediately evokes memories of the Mel Gibson classic "Mad Max." The game was released in 1998, so its graphics look more than a bit dated now, but the game will suck you in regardless, and you're guaranteed to spend at least 80 hours on the game. Besides, who doesn't want to play a game where you can earn the title "Child Killer"? The game costs $9.80 on Amazon.com.
2. "The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind" Before "Oblivion," there was "Morrowind." The RPG "Morrowind" takes place on a different continent in the fictional continent in the Elder Scrolls universe, and while released in 2002, still looks and plays great today. The game features a fascinating game world that you can wander for hours and do as many incredibly evil or good things for the population of "Morrowind" as you'd like, all the while picking up loot. You don't even have to do quests if you don't want to. If you can finish every quest in the game (or even just FIND all of them) then you owe yourself a cookie. Actually, make that a truckload of cookies. The game costs $19.99 at EBGames.com.
3. "Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy" For the price of one mediocre game, you get three great games that will suck up all of your boredom hours. To put it simply, in all three games, you're a bad man with more than a few guns, and you drive around a massive city in stolen cars and off people violently as you wantonly commit various acts of carnage. As the orginal sandbox game, there are no rules, and you'll love it - the game wouldn't work any other way. The cities are so big and realistically designed that you'll stay immersed for hours, even if you're just shooting pedestrians and running from the cops rather than doing any of the actual missions in the game. The game costs $29.99 at EBGames.com, and comes as a box set.
4. "World of Warcraft" "World of Warcrack" as the frequent players of the game call it is probably one of the most time-sucking massive multi-player online RPG (MMORPG) ever made. The story is not important, and neither is the setting. All you need to know is that there are millions of people for you to play with, thousands of items for you to sell in the auction houses located in all of the major cities. You can just wander for hours and take in the sights and sounds of the game world, even though you will have to deal with the odd obnoxious 8-year-old kid hell bent on ruining the experience of the more mature gamers. The game costs $19.99 at EBGames.com, with occassional promos that offer a free download.
5. "Knights of the Old Republic" Journey 4,000 years back in time in the Star Wars universe and explore a very different sort of Star Wars storyline. "KOTOR" is one of those games that everyone should have in their collection regardless of what his or her usual tastes in games are. The game is an extremely well designed RPG from famed developer BioWare, and puts a dark spin on Star Wars that was very much steered away from in the debacle that is the prequel trilogy. "KOTOR" will steal about 40 hours of your time. The game costs $9.99 at EBGames.com.
