Exams are looming around the corner, but don't freak out. Anxiety will only make it worse. Take a deep breath and follow these helpful study tips.
Don't wait until the last minute. Most students wait until the very last minute to study for exams, and this really doesn't help. Try starting days before your exam and just review your notes for an hour.
According to the academic success center, reviewing your notes after every class will work wonders come exam time.
People who are good studiers make time to study. Set a schedule for study time every day. Don't forget to take breaks, because non-stop studying is just as bad was waiting until the last minute.
Give yourself some time to decompress between study streaks.
Get plenty of sleep. Getting at least seven hours of sleep the night before each exam makes you more functional the next morning.
Don't stay up all night cramming, it's not helpful. In order for the brain to take in and process new information it has to have to rest and build the new information into your long term memory.
Make up little games or flash cards. According to an article written by Kim Roach on www.lifehack.org, the human brain creates memories through repetition. Roach states that flashcards can help you study quickly and efficiently and they also allow you to study anywhere at any time.
Flashcards are super cheap to buy and easy to make. If you're really lazy, you can always just type them up on the computer, print them out and paste them on the flash cards instead of hand-writing them.
Study groups can be a really effective way to study for exams. Get a bunch of people from class together and head to the Thomas Cooper Library. Since everyone takes notes differently, chances are some one in the group may have information you don't. Also if your instructor provides a study guide for the final get everyone together and fill it out together.
Study groups, while not meant to be entertainment, can be comforting because it's nice knowing that you are not the only one freaking out about an exam.
Be sure to study in a place that is free of distractions. Take advantage of Thomas Cooper's many floors and 24-hour services during exam week. According to the Thomas Copper Library website exam hours started on Nov. 26 and continue to Dec. 16.
