Women's golf named No. 1 team in nation

Gamecocks take top spot at ANNIKA Intercollegiate

After a dominant showing in its first tournament of the season, the South Carolina women's golf team is No. 1 in the nation for the first time in program history.

The Gamecocks turned in a 10-under performance last week at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate to take top honors, beating runner up Arizona by seven strokes.

Senior Justine Dreher earned the top individual spot, finishing nine-under on the tournament to lead all competitors. Her efforts garnered a Player of the Week nod from Golfweek.

The publication also tabbed South Carolina as its Team of the Week.

The Gamecocks' next chance to defend their No. 1 ranking starts on Oct. 10 at the Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
