As the senior leader of the offensive line, Cann was team captain for two straight seasons. After a stellar senior season, he received second team All-American honors from Walter Camp, Associated Press and Sports Illustrated.

It was a long wait for former South Carolina offensive guard A.J. Cann, but 26 hours and 67 picks later Cann is a Jaguar.

A four-star recruit out of Bamburg Ehrhardt High School, Cann started all but one game at left guard for the Gamecocks during his four-year career. Cann earned Freshman All-American honors in 2011 and was an All-SEC selection as a senior in 2014.

Many experts pegged Cann as a first round prospect, but he did not hear his name Thursday night. After being passed by the Jaguars and Bills in the second round, many believed his free-fall could continue. The waiting finally ended when the Jacksonville Jaguars picked Cann with the third pick of the third round.

Cann is South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier’s 101st career draft pick — tops among active coaches.

Cann is expected to compete for a starting job on a thin Jaguar line and will attend rookie minicamp next week.

Draft experts expect running back Mike Davis and offensive tackle Corey Robinson to be drafted at some point this weekend. Defensive tack J.T. Surratt is also expected to hear his name.

Davis could be a third round selection and hear his name Friday night. The 2015 NFL Draft concludes with rounds 4-7 Saturday at noon on ESPN and NFL Network.
