Martin announces three transfers from South Carolina's men's basketball team

Three players will transfer from South Carolina’s men’s basketball team, head coach Frank Martin announced Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore forwards Reggie Theus Jr. and Demetrius Henry along with freshman guard Shamiek Sheppard will seek eligibility elsewhere.

Henry and Sheppard were both suspended indefinitely following a violation of team rules in February, and neither had been cleared to rejoin the team when Martin met with them following the Gamecocks’ 17-16 season.

“Demetrius and Shamiek have also asked for their release and will not be with our team next season,” Martin said. “We wish them the best moving forward and appreciate all that they and their families contributed to our program."

Theus, a Los Angeles native, asked for his release from the program to be closer to his family.

Martin thanked Theus for his contributions to the program.

“Reggie is a fine young man who has represented our team and program in the best way possible ever since he stepped on campus, and we want to thank him and his family for their contributions to our team.”

All three players must sit out a year before playing for a new team, per NCAA rules.
