Former USC basketball star Howell dies

Rolando Howell, a former South Carolina men's basketball player, died Wednesday night at 34. An accident in May left Howell paralyzed, and he died of complications from a broken C5 vertebrae, The State reports. Howell played for South Carolina from 2001-04, scoring 970 points. After his passing, former teammates voiced their condolences on social media.

Coastal wins first national title

Coastal Carolina University baseball took home their first ever national championship Thursday afternoon, defeating Arizona 4-3. Not only is this NCAA title the first for the baseball team, but it is the first for any Coastal sport, ABC Columbia reports. The team became the fourth non-power 5 conference team to win a national championship.

Shaw to leave Cleveland

Winningest former Gamecock quarterback Connor Shaw will leave the Cleveland Browns after being in the program for two years. After being drafted by the Browns in 2014 as a free agent, Shaw started in one game, WLTX reports. He then spent the next season recovering from a thumb injury. Cleveland ultimately got two new quarterbacks including Robert Griffin III, and decided to let Shaw go. Shaw says he is excited to see what the next step will be for him and his family.
