USC to raise Greek fees to pay for parking

In response to limited parking space in USC's Greek Village, the university will raise fraternity and sorority fees to help pay for a Greeks-only parking garage. Fees will be raised $125 per semester. The 1200-space garage is estimated to be finished in two years, according to The State, and will also have retail and meeting space. Some students are opposed to paying more in fees to pay for a garage that they will never be able to utilize.

Local businesses embrace Pokémon Go

The new smartphone gaming app, Pokémon Go, has users walking the streets to play, and Columbia businesses are seizing the opportunity. WIS reports that some businesses reel in customers by offering deals to game players. Five Points restaurant Yesterday's is among those who are enjoying more traffic from people playing the game nearby.

Indoor practice facility named for Spurrier

Board members at USC decided to name a new indoor athletic practice facility for former Gamecock Football coach Steve Spurrier and his wife Jerri. The sign with the legendary coach's and his wife's names was raised outside the facility, and WLTX reports that more signs will go up inside and outside the building on July 25.
