Jacob's Hall family pursuing school officers legislation

The family of the child killed at Townville Elementary School is pushing legislation in the boy's honor, The State reports. "Jacob's Law" would require every school in South Carolina to have armed officers. Townville's school district, Anderson District 5, only has armed school resource officers in middle and high schools.

Matthew-related road closures decrease

Less than 100 South Carolina roads are still closed due to Hurricane Matthew, The State reports. State officials say another third of the closed roads should be open by the Thanksgiving holiday and the next third shortly after Thanksgiving. About 30 of the affected roads are still inaccessible due to continuing flooding. The total cost of all storm-related road repairs won't be known until at least November.

Woman arrested over fatal hit-and-run

Columbia police arrested a woman in connection with a fatal hit-and-run early Thursday morning, WLTX reports. Bettika Tuwana Salley was one of two suspects taken in for questioning. She is charged with hit-and-run with death as well as felony DUI resulting in a death and failure to render aid.
