Burglary, car theft Columbia's most common crimes

Columbia is prone to burglaries and car thefts according to this year's Uniform Crime Report, The State reports. The report also says violent crime rates in the Palmetto State rose by 3 percent, but property crime rates fell by 4 percent. Columbia led the state in aggravated assault while North Charleston leads the state in murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, rape, robbery and larceny-theft.

Parents allege abuse at Midlands after-school program

Local agencies are investigating an area after-school program over allegations of abuse, WIS reports. Parents have accused a staff member at A&A Youth Community and Learning Center of practicing an unprofessional "style of discipline" and hitting children. Social Services and the Richland County Sheriff's Department are investigating the claims, but local school districts are still allowing the center to pick up students for after-school care.

Haley affirms Trump support, slams both parties

Gov. Nikki Haley is still voting for Donald Trump but is not offering him full support, WLTX reports. She says the actions of both political parties in the 2016 election "has turned [her] stomach upside down" and that she's "not a fan" of Trump or Clinton. However, she says issues like the appointment of Supreme Court justices and Obamacare have pushed her into the Trump column. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio was Haley's candidate of choice in the Republican primary.
