Men's basketball adds another center to 2017 class

2017 prospect Felipe Haase announced his intention to sign with South Carolina. A native of Chile, Haase took official visits to Missouri, Pittsburg and Purdue, but ultimately decided to join Frank Martin and the Gamecocks.

Haase continues Martin's trend of signing international players. He joins fellow signee and Mali-native Ibrahim Doumbia in the 2017 class. There are a total of five student athletes who are not originally from the United States on the 2016-2017 roster. Coach Martin and this staff continue to recruit talent on a world-wide scale.

Haase is listed at 6-foot-10, and he joins 7-foot, South Carolina native Jason Cudd as the second center to commit to the Gamecocks in 2017. It appears Coach Martin is putting an emphasis on interior players with a lot of size this class. All three players with commitments to the 2017 class are either centers or forwards.

Haase was originally committed to Colorado State before reopening his commitment.
