Letter to the Students: Student Body President Ross Lordo

Fellow Gamecocks,

I want to firstly express my sincere and utmost gratitude to our student body for electing me to the honor of a lifetime, to serve as your student body president. I am excited to begin this journey for the students of our great university — a journey to showcase the power of unity and teamwork in not only our Student Government, but within our student body. I pledge to work with tireless dedication to lead an inclusive, transparent and passionate group of student leaders as we undertake the issues that matter most to our fellow students.

Undoubtedly, it is a special time to be a Carolinian. No matter your hometown or background, it is a privilege to be a part of this Carolina community. Our diversity in culture, in thought and in experience help make this student body one of the strongest in the country and when we work together, we will be limitless. If I promise you one thing as your president it is this: For the next year, we will not be complacent. We will exemplify extraordinary character as we work diligently, collaboratively and with a passion that can never be questioned.

I am excited and encouraged by the interest I have seen in Student Government for this upcoming year. The record-breaking number of senate candidates and the almost 80 cabinet applicants exemplifies the culture shift that is occurring in Student Government. We will continue every effort to be a Student Government that is visible on campus, encompassed of leaders spanning many organizations and, most importantly, one focused on advocating for students of every background. I hope to make this an unparalleled year of student engagement, constant communication and unwavering accountability as I strive to serve you in every capacity.

I look forward to meeting so many of you and hearing how we can work together to move our beloved University forward. As your president, your Carolinian experience is very important to me. When you’re on campus, feel free to stop by the Student Government office in the Russell House Student Union, room 227 (across from Einstein Bagels) or simply email me at sasgpres@mailbox.sc.edu if you have anything you would like to share. I’d like to hear from you and learn how I can help better your experience as a fellow student. Follow us @UofSCSG on Twitter and Instagram to keep up with the latest Student Government happenings, to discover opportunities to get involved and to receive the occasional giveaway!

Again, I truly thank you for believing in me to lead our student body. There is no greater anticipation than what I have for this coming year as we come together to make this Gamecock experience one which we will never forget.
