Carolina Production's SpringFest to feature headliner Cassadee Pope

To celebrate the beginning of spring, Carolina Productions is hosting their second annual SpringFest. On March 30, students can expect Greene St to be bustling with activity from 12 to 8 p.m. Students and faculty alike can take part in activities including spin art, photo booths and inflatables. Local businesses will also be out with giveaways and handouts.

However, the main event of the day starts at 6 p.m. with Ropeswing Marathon. This year’s Battle of the Bands winner will be opening for Cassadee Pope, the headliner of SpringFest. Pope was the lead singer for the band Hey Monday before she decided to go solo on The Voice in 2012. She won the show and has gone on to record an album and two EPs. Earlier this year, Pope was also nominated for a Grammy in the category Best Country Duo/Group Performance for her duet with Chris Young “Think of You.”

“We decided to bring Cassadee because CP hadn’t hosted a country artist in a while, and given that’s such a popular genre down here, we thought it would be a good fit for our Spring Fest vibe,” CP concerts coordinator Sam Esce said.

In addition to activities and performers, SpringFest will also have carnival food for event goers to enjoy throughout the day. If looking for less engaging activities while snacking on Insomnia Cookies and popcorn, students can get caricatures done or watch street performers.

Students will even have the chance to win prizes during the day, including front row tickets to see Nathan Fielder when he comes in April.

All of these activities, performances and food are free for students and faculty with a valid CarolinaCard.

“We’re all excited from Spring Fest in general, since we’ve tried to make it bigger and better than last year,” Esce said. “And of course, we’re excited for Cassadee Pope!”
