Gamecocks Alshon Jeffery, Duce Staley help Eagles win Super Bowl

A year ago, former Gamecock Alshon Jeffery was a Chicago Bear and made a promise that he would win the Super Bowl the following year.

"I guarantee you we'll win the Super Bowl next year," Jeffery said.

With a different team, he kept his promise, helping the Philadelphia Eagles beat the New England Patriots 41-33 to win their first ever Super Bowl.

Not only did Jeffery keep his promise, he helped make it happen. He had three catches for 73 yards, including the first touchdown of the game. The game was tied at three in the first quarter, before quarterback Nick Foles found Jeffery for an incredible 34-yard catch to give the Eagles a 9-3 lead.

With that touchdown catch, Jeffery became the first Gamecock to score a touchdown in the Super Bowl. This led Jeffrey to his first Super Bowl win.

While Jeffery enjoys his first title, he gets to enjoy it with former Gamecock and current Eagles running back coach Duce Staley. Staley earned his first ring as a player on the 2005 Pittsburgh Steelers team, but this was his first title as a coach.

Jeffery also got to see his former teammate, Stephon Gilmore, who matched up against him for the Patriots. Gilmore covered Jeffery for a good amount of the game and helped break up a pass intended for Jeffery that the Patriots then intercepted. But in the end, Jeffery and the Eagles were able to power through, score late and earn their first title for Philadelphia.
