Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge are here

Samsung’s yearly flagship is here—rather, I should say flagships. The company released the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge last Friday, April 10.

Last generation’s S5 gave us Sport and Active versions, which had dust and water resistance. Neither of these new Galaxies offer these, and that’s all the more reason to buy a case that could offer such protection.

That and the lack of non-removable battery, a first for Samsung’s flagship phones at least, are the downsides when you compare them to last year’s devices. Although, those who prefer the plastic back cover won’t like its glass replacement.

As usual with any yearly flagship, the specs are better all-around for both phones. Let’s start with some of the commonalities of each:

  • Corning Gorilla Glass 4 displays and back panels
  • Fingerprint sensors
  • 1440 x 2560-pixel resolutions (~577 pixels per inch (ppi))
  • Android 5.0.2 Lollipop
  • Exynos 7420 Chipset
  • Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & Quad-core 2.1 GHz Cortex-A57 processors
  • Mali-T760MP8 graphics processing units (GPUs)
  • No external card slot
  •  32/64/128 GB of internal storage
  • 3 GB of RAM
  • 16MP cameras capable of optical image stabilization, autofocus, and LED flash
  • Up to 2160p@30fps (4K) video recording
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac
  • Bluetooth 4.1

  • Infrared ports
