Football Blitz

When Helmets clash Saturday in Athens, it will be more than just an ordinary Saturday for many of those playing the game. To them, it's not just another SEC contest. It's not just another road game. It's not just another rivalry game. It's the border war.

USC football news in brief.

Opening-week upsets, rivalries set stage for key matchups as season kicks into gear

After week of stunners, shockers, football fans should prepare for unpredictable ride to Pasadena

TCU pulled off a stunning victory against Oklahoma on Saturday with a 17-10 win in Norman. For all the talk about this being the year Texas would finally beat Oklahoma, who would have thought it would be Texas Christian taking the Sooners down?

Simpson spearheads defense

Only a sophomore on a team expected to be a middle of the pack contender, he has already become the face of the program. Looked over in recruiting during his senior season at Rock Hill High School, he became SEC Freshman of the Year and was named to the Freshman All-American Team after committing to USC. Now, all eyes are on Ko Simpson as he has been tabbed the No. 1 free safety in America.

Tobacco juice, hideous women not good enough for UGA win

Georgia fans should look out as Spurrier brings offense's cock 'n' fire style to Athens

In 1995 an assistant coach at Florida said no opponent had ever scored 50 points in Athens. A few hours later, after hanging 52 on the Georgia Bulldogs, Steve Spurrier was just minding his own business and jogging back to the locker room. As he crossed the goal line, one of the few Georgia fans that hadn't left tossed a cup filled with tobacco spit at Spurrier. The cup missed, not surprisingly. If they had that much trouble getting in the end zone during the game, why would afterward be any different?

Spurrier's rep as SEC king can't lift USC past Bulldogs

Ol' ball coach's legacy won't bring USC out of perennial mediocrity

The headline everywhere this week has been the same - the evil genius returns.

Gamecock Greats: Rob Deboer

He was a two-sport athlete in baseball and football. He was a leader on the gridiron, guiding USC to big upsets in the opening years of SEC play. He was one of the most popular players to ever walk the Carolina campus.
