Senators running for top positions on the Residence Hall Association executive board pushed an official RHA Web site and greater communication with residents at last night's meeting.
Sen. Jaime Shook, a sophomore public relations major, is running unopposed for RHA president. She wants to use the senate as a tool for "empowering hall governments."
Shook plans to have a working Web site by June 1 with contact information, history, pictures and meeting minutes.
Shook also spoke about the relationship between RHA and Student Government. She said she is not worried about being able to communicate with the organization but is excited about working cooperatively.
Four contenders for vice president also spoke at last night's meeting. Sens. Brad Williams, Ami Emery and Joe Saglimbeni are running on platforms encouraging greater communication between residents and representatives.
Saglimbeni boasted his experience serving as an RHA area-liaison while the other three senators talked about their involvement with SCORE, a state-wide residence hall organization.
Randy RaShad Gaines is running for student body treasurer in addition to RHA vice president. He said that he hoped to bond the two organizations together through his leadership.
"We need to come together because who knows what next year's issues will be?" Gaines said. "We need to be on the same page or we're not going to be able to get anything done."
In the race for secretary, incumbent Mallory Amons is also running unopposed. She said her goal for next year is to continue to improve communication within the senate and between residents and representatives.
She said that a Web site is an important step forward for next year because it will support increased communication.
"We need a site that all students have access to, along with students from other organizations," Amons said.
Five senators are running for the position of treasurer including Sens. Ellison, Pulfor, Scott, Jenkins and Ortiz-Colon. Each candidate talked about the importance of a Web site for facilitating RHA initiatives.
