Thankfully, I was not in Columbia for the apparently torrential downpour that struck the city Saturday night, lasting into the following Sunday morning. The storm shut down numerous streets on campus and caused costly property damage.

Clean campus: a year-round committment

Students should be concerned with image, safety of campus

Recently, I was asked by a foreign exchange student if all of the cities in South Carolina were as dirty as Columbia. I'm writing on behalf of the Midlands Authority for Conventions, Sports and Tourism in response to The Daily Gamecock's, "In Our Opinion: Columbia trending up, still needs character," piece issued Wednesday, Jan. 11.

It's upsetting and very disheartening to read editorials that go against everything my team and I have worked on for so many years. Tasked with promoting the entire Columbia region, as well as being the central hub for conference, event, restaurant and entertainment information for visitors and locals alike, we strive on a daily basis to do as much as we can to connect individuals with the happenings taking place throughout their city. Some of the events may focus on families, while other focus on business-oriented conferences, but nevertheless, it's valuable information about various events taking place right here in Columbia.
