Donald Trump’s rants harm image in presidential candidacy

‘Birther’ issue moot point, unworthy of debate

Something is wrong when Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly think a potential Republican presidential candidate is crazy.

Donald Trump, who is considering a presidential run, recently set off a media storm when he brought up the “birther” debate by suggesting that not only is President Barack Obama’s birth certificate not real, but that his birth announcement in the local newspaper was a forgery.

michellefantonewebThe claims suggest there was some conspiracy to put young Obama in the White House back in 1961. It’s just plain weird that Trump has chosen to reignite this issue, which almost all conservative politicians have conceded is no longer a concern.

Beck went as far as to say Trump made him feel “uncomfortable,” calling him a “showboater” and saying “we could get serious candidates who could shake things up by not saying provocative things” — an ironic statement coming from Beck.

O’Reilly called Trump out during an interview, saying that not only does he disagree with Trump’s birth certificate nonsense, but he doesn’t believe Trump believes it himself.

It is this notion that really sheds light on Trump’s act. His latest crusade is simply an act to get attention from the media and the public, and it is this false attitude that cheapens everything else Trump could possibly stand for as a potential candidate. Despite what you may think of this notion, any good qualities Trump may have to be a good president are going to be overshadowed by his raising Cain over a moot point.

While the idea of Trump as a candidate was intriguing at first, I’ve come to agree he does not actually believe this birther nonsense.

His rants are contrived and ridiculous, and in the end they will backlash on him.

Why is it that no one ever bothers to point out the principal flaw in the birther's argument: Even if Obama was born in Kenya, he was born to a US citizen. That automatically makes him a "natural born citizen" and so eligible to hold the office of president. His actual location of birth legally doesn't matter.

    Junior,

If you don't get it by now, you never will.

The mother had to meet certain tests and she flunked the one on age.

Even if she was old enough, it would just have given Obama the right to apply for US Citizenship. Not automatic.
In any event, not eligible to be President.

Now, since you're still wet behind the ears, it works like this. When a person is born certain information concerning the birth is put on a piece of paper. What is more, the people giving the information are required to signed under oath that the information is correct.

What is more, these documents are never destroyed. Not because of Presidential qualifications but do determine inheritance and heirship.

It is not unusual, for example, for women to lie about the father of their child.

Disputes often come up regarding these matters and it takes 2 seconds for a judge to order a copy of the signed birth certificate so that everyone can be questioned about where and how they got the information.

Obviously, the Birthers are hoping tht Obama wasn't born at a hospital like he says he was and that there is no birth certificate and instead the information on the abbreviated birth certificate came from his relatives to make him a US Citizen.

In the 1950's and 1960's it was a big deal to be a US Citizen.

So, as you can see, in America you either put up or shut up.

    Obama is not putting up.

Andrew is quite correct. I'd take it a step further. I'd say that when you present conservatives with such easily proven facts that utterly destroy their arguments, as this does, anyone with decency would drop the argument. But "birthers" refuse, even then, to let it go. So the question is WHY won't they let it go. And the reason is its the ONLY argument they have. And trashing Obama is much more important to them than their own integrity. So while it says nothing at all about Obama it speaks volumes about his detractors. And that should be pointed out to all within earshot of these lunatics.

    [quote]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%27Natural_Born_Citizen%27_clause_of_the_U.S._Constitution

The most prominent issue raised against Obama was the claim made in several lawsuits that he was not actually born in Hawaii. In two other lawsuits, the plaintiffs argued that it was irrelevant whether he was born in Hawaii,[75] but argued instead that he was nevertheless not a natural born citizen because his citizenship status at birth was governed by the British Nationality Act of 1948.[76] The relevant courts have either denied all applications or declined to render a judgment due to lack of jurisdiction. Some of the cases have been dismissed because of the plaintiff's lack of standing.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standing_(law)

In law, standing or locus standi is the term for the ability of a party to demonstrate to the court sufficient connection to and harm from the law or action challenged to support that party's participation in the case. In the United States, the current doctrine is that a person cannot bring a suit challenging the constitutionality of a law unless the plaintiff can demonstrate that the plaintiff is (or will imminently be) harmed by the law. You got nuthin' "True Observer". Why don't you let it go? Wait... I already answered that!

The only reason that the courts have not ruled on this issue or even agreed to hear it is because they are afraid of the firestorm that would ensue if it is found that we have an ineligible person sitting in the Oval Office.

don't feed the birther trolls. No amount of logic, fact, law or common sense is capable of penetrating their thick, hate-filled, racist skulls.

It's interesting this showed up in my Google News feed... I am looking for someone to write an article on the politics of Trump's move. How does the GOP win with him out there blathering as he is? This reminds me of Ferraro during Clinton's run against Obama. His nonsense is just that, however it seems to give racists a place to feel safe about voting against a Black man; and it reignites the unwarranted suspicions about his religion without addressing the hateful fear mongering that comes along with it. When is a journalist going to get to the real political science story here?

A natural born Citizen is born to citizen parents.

Obama is a peregrine in the White House.

Sorry dancingrabbit. You said "A natural born Citizen is born to citizen parents," and then concluded with "Obama is a peregrine in the White House."

Wrong. A natural born citizen is a person born to ONE (1) US parent. No one (even birthers) disputes that Obama's mother was born in Wichita, Kansas, USA and was a US citizen until she died. This automatically makes him a US citizen. He's just nesting where he belongs.

Sorry Michelle. I shouldn't have brought it up anyway. That wasn't the point of the article...
