South Carolina's regular season has come to a close, but there is still one game left to play since the Gamecocks are bowl-eligible for the first time since 2018.

Guaranteed a thirteenth game, the College Football Playoff Selection Committee will determine the Gamecocks' fate on Sunday, Dec. 5.

Prior to Selection Sunday, The Daily Gamecock interviewed 40 students to see where they believe the team will play.

In ESPN's latest bowl projections, both Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach predicted South Carolina will play in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl on Dec. 28 against West Virginia or Kansas State.

Second-year criminal justice student Madison Owens said she is hoping to see the Gamecocks in the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl against Virginia. However, after seeing the projections, she said she likes the team's chances against either Big 12 opponent.

"I think that our odds are pretty good against either. I mean, I'm obviously a little concerned after our performance against Clemson," Owens said. "I think we'd fare well against either team, but I think out of the two, I'd rather us play Kansas State stat-wise."

Fourth-year sport and entertainment management student Cam Mecca said he believes the Gamecocks will play in the TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl.

"I really wanted to go, but I don't think I'm going to make the trip to Birmingham," he said. "If it's any of those other ones, that would be cool."

The Duke's Mayo Bowl, played in Charlotte – the closest location geographically to Columbia, was the most popular destination for South Carolina among students.

"I just want it to be something close that's pretty easy to travel to, because I definitely want to go to it," third-year sports and entertainment management student Reese Weiner said.

In favor of playing in the Duke's Mayo Bowl, third-year mass communications student Dylan Baldassarre wants to see an all-Carolina matchup between the Gamecocks and North Carolina Tar Heels.

"I think you would get a very good crowd for both teams being that it's in Charlotte, and it would be cool to see North vs. South," Baldassarre said.

One of the most exciting aspects of bowl season is seeing your team compete against teams with whom they don't normally get the chance.

Third-year finance student Luc LaPointe hopes to see South Carolina face the Penn State Nittany Lions in the TransPerfect Music City or TaxSlayer Gator Bowl.

"Considering I grew up a Penn State fan and having that matchup would be pretty fun to watch — just like my two favorite teams going at it," LaPointe said. "Realistically though, I think something of Minnesota would be pretty good."
