With Monday night comes the matchup women’s basketball fans have been awaiting all season: the top-ranked Connecticut Huskies will take on the No. 2 South Carolina Gamecocks in Colonial Life Arena at 7 p.m. The matchup features the only two remaining undefeated teams in the country, and it is a rematch of last year’s one-versus-two matchup in Storrs, Connecticut, where the Huskies prevailed 87-62 on their way to a third consecutive national championship.

South Carolina's 81-78 victory over No. 8 Texas A&M was an instant classic. The nail-biter featured 23 lead changes, highlight reel dunks and ferocious defense. The Gamecock victory marked their first win over a top 10 team on the road since they beat the Florida Gators back in 2006. The Gators went on to win the NCAA tournament that year.

Senior forward Michael Carrera got the South Carolina men’s basketball team back on track Tuesday night, scoring a career-high 34 points and matching a career-high with 15 rebounds to lead the way for a 84-74 win over Mississippi State. Carrera’s performance helped the Gamecocks overcome 18 turnovers and another poor performance at the free-throw line, making just 65.9 percent of their shots from the stripe.

The road struggles continued for the 17-2 South Carolina men’s basketball team Saturday, falling to the Tennessee Volunteers 78-69. The Gamecocks have now lost two of their last three road games, gaining the win with a dramatic overtime comeback. Coach Frank Martin’s team’s unaddressed problems were evident yet again, as the Gamecocks struggled to shoot the ball from the free throw line and beyond the arc and fell victims to another poor start.

The No. 2 ranked South Carolina women’s basketball team will carry its undefeated record on the road Thursday night as they travel to the plains of Auburn, Alabama, for a 7 p.m. tipoff. The Gamecocks had a wild finish in their game on Sunday against No. 13 Texas A&M, but ended up with a one-point victory over the tough Aggie team. Despite never leading in the second half, the South Carolina men’s basketball team pulled out a come-from-behind overtime with over Ole Miss Tuesday, moving the Gamecocks to 4-1 in SEC play. The Gamecocks scored the final 11 points in regulation after trailing 66-55 with under four minutes to go to force overtime. South Carolina made six of their seven free throw attempts in the extra period, including an and-one from senior forward Michael Carrera to give the Gamecocks the final lead.

This weekend I attended the men’s basketball game against Missouri with some friends. It was a good game to watch, and I had a great time supporting my school’s team; however, I was absolutely appalled by the portrayal of unsportsmanlike conduct that not only our fans but our administration exhibited.
