Panera Bread will be coming to the first floor of Russell House by Aug. 23 in the Central Market area. This section once housed Topio’s and Horseshoe Deli prior to renovations. The restaurant will be full-service — including seating and the full Panera Bread menu — and will employ 50 people, remaining open Monday through Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

David Lankes, director of the School of Library and Information Science at USC, has stepped down from his position and will return to a faculty role to focus on his health. Assistant Professor Dick Kawooya will become the interim director in Lankes' absence.

USC's College of Engineering and Computing received a $10,000 grant from the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation. The donation will support the college's National Engineer's Week, or "E-Week," initiative, an open house event in February devoted to inspiring children of all backgrounds to become engineers.

The University of South Carolina approved a budget on Wednesday which raises the tuition for undergraduates and law school students on the Columbia campus by 2.9 percent for both in and out of state students. The budget also includes an increase in tuition for South Carolina residents in USC’s medical school, online courses and the campuses in Aiken, Beaufort and Upstate.
