Two months ago, Amazon.com released a video that would change the world simply by alluding to the possibility of futuristic advancements in shopping technology. The promo, found here, very outwardly lays out a plan for Amazon’s final frontier: the fundamentally physical world of offline retail. Clearly this fact alone provides shock value in and of itself, considering Amazon has established itself as the premiere online retailer, competing closely with offline giants like Wal-Mart, Best Buy and the like.

Sunday marked the 59th Annual Grammy Awards, and the event was not without its triumphs. The span of 2016 covered a myriad of artful projects and giant albums, and that fact was only exemplified by the way it was condensed into a mere few-hour special. A smooth collage of today’s greats took to the stage to receive awards, perform and even pay tribute to 2016’s long list of fallen artists. Nonetheless, I would venture to argue that the most important artist of the night to take the stage did not represent the past so much as he does the future.

Following the recent release of M. Night Shyamalan’s newest stab at the horror genre, “Split,” the box office shows a $88.9 million domestic evaluation. The jury’s still out on whether this is a fair representation of the movie's worth. “Split” has been airing for right over two weeks and has received uproarious acclaim. But is it worth the hype? In keeping with Shyamalan’s style, probably not.

The months between the 2016 presidential election and its accompanying inauguration have not been without controversy for President-elect Donald J. Trump. Scandal seems to follow the former business mogul-turned-prospective leader of the free world, and this has left citizens both inside the U.S. and elsewhere uneasy, dreading any kind of political fiasco, scandalous or otherwise.

Seventeen years ago, November was dubbed “National Novel Writing Month” by a group of writers hoping to inspire a new generation to take to pen and paper. They reasoned that if one could dedicate 30 days to writing 50,000 words, he or she could effectively complete a novel in a month’s time. Since then, National Novel Writing Month, better known now by its acronym, NaNoWriMo, has inspired thousands to tell their tales. This year, the program anticipates the greatest amount of participation since the initiative’s founding.

As the countdown to the election grows increasingly shorter, many are left disillusioned by their options. On one end, a long-time politician molded by
seemingly continuous scandals prepares herself for a title she feels she’s
earned — that of the highest office in the land. On the other side, a controversial billionaire mogul creates enough
scandal of his own to compete with her. Many voters feel distraught and fatigued by the process that has led them
here and unprepared for the days to follow.

The year 2016 can be described as an important one for any number of things. It has seen the ups and downs of social justice. It has seen both political progress and political digress. But one thing positive to note is the fervency the album industry has witnessed over the past 10 months. Rock legends such as Radiohead have released albums alongside hip-hop powerhouses like Drake and Kendrick Lamar. The theme is undeniable: It’s been a phenomenal year for songwriting. No matter your musical inclination, chances are it has been satiated over the course of late, and it certainly shows no signs of stopping.

Ever since his death on Sept. 12, 2008, author David Foster
Wallace has received posthumous acclaim that greatly exceeds the
notoriety he was afforded during his life. His last effort, a muddled and unfinished work compiled tidily before his death, was published and distributed in 2011. Called “The Pale
King,” it marked the very last writing the world would ever read of the
late great.

When Long Beach, California, rapper Vince Staples released his 2015 album
“Summertime ’06,” it was met with a mass of critical acclaim. At the time, Pitchfork.com described his
lyricism as “conversational, but these are the conversations you have when all
optimism has been burned away.”Similarly, Consequence of Sound highlighted the vision it must have
taken a new rapper like Staples to produce such a record. But perhaps the most widely broadcasted
opinion, and thus the most disputed, came over a year after its release.

Sept. 24 marked the 25th birthday of Nirvana’s foray into the popular music scene: their second album, "Nevermind." Like most other grunge records, their debut, “Bleach,” had not sold well outside of their home city of Seattle, and it wasn’t until their second that the world really paid attention to the genre on the whole. For this reason, among others, "Nevermind" could be considered one of the most consequential LPs of all time.
