Now that the heat has died down a little, National Security Agency director Keith Alexander is publicly asking that the legislation be reintroduced, and consequently, two senators have confirmed to Mother Jones that they’re drafting a new version.

The sequester kicked in Friday as across-the-board spending cuts were officially put into effect, thrusting a divided Washington, D.C., into an even harsher light than it had already been in. President Barack Obama naturally pressed Congress to work with him to find a compromise and halt the pending fiscal crisis that is already underway, though even cautiously optimistic people will warn we shouldn’t expect a resolution anytime soon.

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has decided to take charge in the battle against obesity by restructuring the state’s food stamp plan with the intent to bar unhealthy foods from the program. Haley met with three leaders of South Carolina state agencies on Thursday to announce their plans of seeking a waiver from the federal government in order to change their current food stamp policy.

If you happened to catch the tongue-in-cheek Huffington Post article on the remarkably poor popularity of Congress, you’d know that nowadays the band Nickelback has a higher approval rating than our bicameral legislature. Thankfully, Congress did edge out the Kardashians and North Korea, though I’m not sure if that can really be considered a victory. It’s no secret that Congress has been unsuccessful lately, most notably in their struggle to finalize a new deal regarding fiscal policy and avoiding the hottest political catchphrase of recent times: the fiscal cliff.
