Video game music (VGM) has received unprecedented levels of attention over the past few decades, especially within the past few years. One just needs to revisit the most recent Grammy Awards where, for the very first time, VGM received its own award category to see this movement on full display. It seems that video game music is finally receiving the recognition it deserves. Or parts of it at least.

USC’s Relay For Life is hosting our Main Event this Friday, March 25. Every USC student should take part in Relay For Life on our campus because cancer has touched a large majority of our lives in some way. If you’re not on a team already, you still have time to participate in this exciting overnight event to help us in our mission to end cancer.

A growing “trend” on TikTok has people traumatized, almost intentionally. Content creators are suggesting movies and documentaries that have left them speechless and scarred, some to a point of being banned from movie theaters. Of the recently talked about horror films, "Megan Is Missing" seems to be gaining the most popularity.

College is, for most, a time full of uncertainty. Class selection, career prospects and housing all raise questions about the best path forward, not to mention the many social spheres that college students must navigate. I personally have changed degrees, left clubs to join new ones and even drastically rethought my own future while at USC.

While COVID-19 has affected many popular fall events, there is still plenty to do in Columbia to celebrate both autumn and Halloween. From outdoor activities such as apple-picking to indoor ones such as haunted houses, this part of South Carolina has a fruitful schedule of festivities to offer. Some may be in the heart of Columbia or a short road trip away.

Everything is kind of chaotic right now, and even if it wasn’t, taking care of your mental health can be hard. Regardless of what kind of mental illness you have, or if you have any at all, there are a few things that can improve mental well-being that range from one simple action to a few simple steps. These won’t cure anything, but they could make you feel a little better.

While the 2019-2020 athletic year was unfortunately cut short due to concerns surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak, there have still been many exciting moments for the Gamecocks this past year to look back on. During these strange and stressful times, it is important to remember the moments that had Gamecock fans all over the country cheering.

Spring practice is over and South Carolina’s season opener against Coastal Carolina is still over four months away. Even with the long offseason ahead for the Gamecocks and 129 other schools, ESPN released its first Football Power Index (FPI) rankings for the 2018 football season.

Depending on where you fall on the political spectrum, you may place more importance on some amendments than others. The Second Amendment, the right to bear arms, has held a prominent position in political discourse. Conservative thinkers tend to want to expand gun ownership, while those who are liberal want to limit gun ownership. Recently, those stances have been mirrored in regards to the First Amendment.

With the conclusion of June, many cities across the country and globe celebrated the ideas of diversity and unity. Pride month has become a sort of kick-off to the summer for many, even those who are not in the LGBT community. The festivals and parades have brought people of many different backgrounds together.

Last week, an article entitled “Body positivity doesn’t mean praising obesity” ran in The Daily Gamecock. The essential point of that article was that, while body positivity is all well and good, we shouldn’t get too caught up in calling everyone beautiful and end up forgetting that obesity carries health risks. To quote the author of the piece: “Where do we draw the line between supporting people with natural curves and those who are simply overweight?”

There's a panic that is starting to spread over the quick uptick in terrorism that is occurring in some parts of the world. Yes, terrorism has been considered a serious threat to national security for more than a decade. Recently, however, the incredible amount of terrorist attacks that have been occurring have caused, well, terror to reign over several countries.

Now, drivers coming into Columbia from Interstate 77 and Interstate 20 will know they're entering the home of winners.

Marijuana has been trumpeted by some as a risk-free miracle drug but demonized by Trump’s attorney general as “only slightly less awful” than opioids and heroin. Of course, like most things in life, the truth falls somewhere in between. What is clear, however, is that medical marijuana may be one of the best weapons in America’s arsenal against the opioid crisis. Trump and company repeatedly expressed their sympathy and willingness to action in combating the crisis on the campaign trail; yet, now that he’s in office, his administration’s lackluster approach is simply a hypocritical affront to the very communities he pledged to help. Unless the Trump administration changes its course on medical marijuana, Americans will continue to die in a fruitless moral crusade against legitimate solutions.
