of Chinese culture, food, games and crafts. The festival, held at the West
Columbia Riverwalk Amphitheater on Saturday, was a free event and a nod to
the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival that holds great importance in Chinese

"Fingerreisen," an art exhibition in the McMaster Gallery, is a rare depiction of two-dimensional maps and spaces constructed in a three-dimensional manner. The art collection, made by Elisabeth Pellathy and Lee Somers, pays homage to the topographic features that flat maps represent.

For one month every year, people come together to recognize and celebrate Hispanic and Latin culture. Even though Hispanic Heritage Month doesn't officially start until Sept. 15, Columbia started their celebration early with the annual Main Street Latin Festival that kicked off with a huge dance party at the Empire Supper Club last Friday night. Saturday morning proved just as energetic, as the day was packed with activities that ranged from live music to arts and crafts.

On the nights of Aug. 26 and 27, New Brookland Tavern will be filled with underrepresented music artists, glitter and tampons. Hoechella, Columbia’s newest music festival, is a spinoff from the popular music festival Coachella and aims to raise awareness about slut and body shaming, rape culture and legislation involving one’s bodily rights.

The 10th anniversary of the Indie Grits festival brought films and music to the Columbia community this weekend. Presented by the Nickelodeon Theatre, Indie Grits was a four-day event full of music, art and screenings of independent films. As part of celebrating the anniversary, events were free to the public. The theme of the festival, Waterlines, was meant to commemorate the flood that struck Columbia in the fall.
