South Carolina women's volleyball won all nine of their sets over the course of three matches to earn the College of Charleston Invitational title this weekend. With victories over the College of Charleston, Tennessee-Martin and Binghamton, the Gamecocks will start their season with a perfect 3-0 record.

In a thrilling matchup between No. 1 Florida and No. 3 South Carolina, the Gamecocks suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 defeat when they surrendered a ninth inning lead to the Gators. Florida trailed for nearly the whole game after falling behind in the first, but a pair of home runs off of South Carolina closer Josh Reagan accelerated a late rally and they claimed the series opener.

The SEC has a long history of being one of the most star-studded conferences in college baseball. In fact, 62 former SEC players made opening day MLB rosters this season. With the 2016 season at an approximate midpoint, it seems like a good point to reflect on the stars that have established themselves this season, so I will be giving out my midseason awards. A lot has changed over these first two months. None of the players I elected to my preseason SEC all-league team will be getting midseason awards, although a few earned honorable mentions.

After splitting the first two games of the series, the South Carolina baseball team surrendered a late lead in Sunday's 5-3 loss to Georgia. The series loss marks a continuation of the Gamecocks' struggles away from Founders Park. At home South Carolina is 22-1, but when playing as the visitor or at neutral location they are just 7-7.

The highly touted Jake Bentley, ranked the No. 2 pro-style quarterback in the class of 2017 per ESPN, has announced that he will reclassify as a 2016 recruit and enroll at South Carolina this summer.

South Carolina dropped their first SEC series of the year after losing Saturday's rubber game to No. 3 Vanderbilt. The Gamecocks are now 7-2 in SEC play and 24-5 overall. Vanderbilt's depth and collection of power pitchers ultimately gave the Commodores an advantage in this matchup between SEC powerhouses.

Two of college baseball's premier programs will square off when the No. 4 Vanderbilt Commodores and the No. 6 South Carolina Gamecocks kick off their three-game series weekend. Both teams have made at least three trips to Omaha since 2010 and have been consistent powerhouses in the SEC. The Gamecocks enter the weekend perched on top of the SEC East at 6-0, while the Commodores are tied for second with Florida and Kentucky at 4-2.
