At USC, there are countless minds that have gone above and beyond what is expected of them. One of the brightest on campus currently is fourth-year studio art student Zachary Diaz. Diaz’s concentration lies in painting, and he has sold many of his works and has shown art all across the country and the world. Surrounded by his work, Diaz talked to the The Daily Gamecock about what art can mean to different people and what it means to be an artist.

One of the most popular television shows today is coming to an end. There’s only nine episodes left of “Game of Thrones” until it’s all over for Westeros (at least on screen). But until that fateful day, the new season of “GoT” has all its fans freaking out over the epic battles, brutal revelations and especially all our favorite characters meeting for the first time ever or in a long time.

A few weeks ago was the 50th anniversary of the release of “Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," and all over the world, people celebrated its birthday and its influence on popular music. With good measure, it is one of the first great concept albums to be released. Paul McCartney was the brainchild of the fictional “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” that would actually play the album. What is even more remarkable is that after the rerelease of Sgt. Pepper, it reached the No. 3 spot on the Billboard chart last week.

For almost a decade, The Delta Saints have flown under the radar as one of Nashville’s most promising acts. Now, they have a new album out called “Monte Vista”that was inspired by the golden haven of California.

The Columbia Museum of Art will have an exhibit of Salvador Dali illustrations entitled “Salvador Dali’s Fantastical Fairy Tales" through May 21. The exhibit offers Columbia residents a chance to witness first hand the artwork of a true master of the craft. The exhibit is made up of storybook illustrations Dali did in the 1950s based on the stories of “Alice in Wonderland," “Don Quixote" and Hans Christian Andersen. Each individual picture at the exhibit feels like its own world whenever you stare at it long enough.

Comedy Central’s new show, “The Comedy Jam," is the network’s first venture into attracting the kind of audience that still misses what MTV used to be. The show has comedians and performers come out on stage in front of a large audience, tell a story about their life of why they emotionally connect with a certain song and then sing that same song. So far, the show has succeeded at producing musical performances from the likes of Chris Hardwick, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Mark Duplass. The creator and host of “The Comedy Jam," Josh Adam Meyers, took the time to talk to The Daily Gamecock and described a wavering journey of creating the show and how he got to where where he is now.

Jimmy Fallon’s ascension to host of “The Tonight Show” in 2014 has been a blistering success so far. By the time he took over Jay Leno’s old post, he already had plenty of confidence thanks to hosting “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” for nearly five years. Even when he had to deal with a horrific finger injury or with rumors of his “boozing," Fallon has taken his late night gig in stride and tries to have as much fun as he possibly can. It’s almost like he is trying to reignite the same kind of fun he had as a cast member on “Saturday Night Live," just this time it’s for a new audience. The outrageous stunts and games that Fallon plays with his guests have consistently been some of the biggest viral sensations on YouTube for years.

On Tuesday night, Carolina Productions teamed up with WUSC to put on University of
South Carolina’s very own Battle of the Bands in the Russell House ballroom. Three bands, The
Whoops, Tripping On Bricks and Ropeswing Marathon competed for a chance to open up for
this years’ Springfest on March 30. As the battle was beginning, an enthusiastic crowd was on hand to hear local Columbia
bands give it all they had. “I’m a musician myself,” Julia Lensch, a second-year nursing student said. “I’m a violinist, so I’m excited to see what other people have composed and who’s the
winner.”

Lead by first-year media arts student Andrew Graybill and his younger brother Ian, Alarm Drum is a local dream rock band that is leaving its mark on social media and around town.
