New on Netflix: Week of September 20

Several well-loved shows and movies are coming to Netflix this week. As we students start to buckle down for the semester, remember to take time to relax and get lost in a new Netflix binge. 

Monday, September 21

Gotham: Season 1

Based on the characters James Gordon and Bruce Wayne from the Batman franchise, “Gotham” is set in Wayne’s childhood, soon after the death of his parents, and follows his journey from growing up in the care of his butler, Alfred Pennyworth, to becoming the Batman, as well as Jim Gordon fighting crime in corrupt Gotham City. The show stars Ben McKenzie, Donal Logue and David Mazouz.

The Following: Season 3

The third installment of this thriller series follows the life of Ryan Hardy, one of the original FBI agents on the case of serial killer Joe Carroll, as he recovers from the traumatizing case. Starring Kevin Bacon, Shawn Ashmore and Jessica Stroup, this season shows that the story is far from over. 

Tuesday, September 22

Person of Interest: Season 4

Starring Michael Emerson, Jim Caviezel, Sarah Shahi and Amy Acker, “Person of Interest” is a crime drama that’s fourth season starts out with the characters creating new identities and racing to save the Machine.

Philomena

This drama is the true story of a political journalist’s attempt to document and assist a woman’s 50-year-long search for her son. The movie stars Judi Dench and Steve Coogan, and it has received critical acclaim and awards.

Wednesday, September 23

The Loft

This eerie remake is the story of five men who use a shared loft apartment to meet their mistresses, but when a murdered body is discovered in the loft, they start to distrust each other. Starring Karl Urban, James Marsden, Wentworth Miller, Eric Stonestreet and Matthias Schoenaerts, the mystery unravels over 108 minutes. 

Thursday, September 24

Hawaii Five-0: Season 5

The Five-0 task force continues to fight crime and unveil drama about their personal lives in the fifth season of this crime show filmed on the scenic Hawaii island of Oahu. The CBS series stars Alex O’Laughlin, Scott Caan, Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park.

Parenthood: Season 6

The latest season of this NBC family drama continues to follow the lives of the Braverman family as their children grow up, their parents grow old and members embark on various journeys of life. The problems they encounter this season include surgery, financial strain, rejection and tough decision-making.   

Saturday, September 26

The Canyons

This thriller-drama starring Lindsay Lohan and James Deen is about a violent boyfriend and his unfaithful actress girlfriend. 

Sunday, September 27

- The Walking Dead: Season 5

The well-known horror-drama’s fifth season continues the dark tale of Rick Grimes and his fellow zombie-apocalypse survivors. New characters are introduced, and with them come new challenges and dangers. The show stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus and Steven Yeun.
