Runoffs oust SC Senate incumbents

Four state senators were left looking for new gigs after a series of runoffs broke for challengers on Tuesday, The State reports. Among them was well-known conservative Lee Bright of Spartanburg. Bright made waves at the Statehouse earlier this year when he introduced a "bathroom bill" to regulate transgender access to public bathrooms, similar to controversial legislation passed in North Carolina. The bill cost Bright a great deal of support within his own party, leaving him vulnerable to challengers.

Longtime USC administrator named new Darlington Raceway head

A former member of the USC athletics department is returning to the Palmetto State in a new role, WIS reports. Longtime Associate Athletic Director Kerry Tharp was named the new president of Darlington Raceway. Tharp, a Kentucky native, worked at USC from 1985 to 2005 before joining NASCAR.

Clemson women's golf facing investigation

Accusations against Clemson's women's golf coach have sparked an investigation by the university, The State reports. The parent of a student accused head coach J.T. Horton of inappropriate physical contact towards players, though not of a sexual nature, and other issues with communication and treatment. Horton, who has been at Clemson since 2011, denied any wrongdoing to the Independent Mail. The Investigation is led by the Office of Access and Equity.
