Dear Carolina,

I think many of my fellow graduating seniors would agree that the past four years here have been nothing short of incredible. We’ve witnessed a lot. From a thousand year flood to our women’s basketball team winning a National Championship, we have truly seen it all. I could not have asked for a better place to spend my college career. Being 700 miles from home wasn’t always easy, but Carolina has a way of making Columbia feel like home. When you get involved and take advantage of all of the opportunities given to you, you’ll be able to find your home here at Carolina.

My advice to all of you is simple: Take it all in. When you’re standing in Willy B, listening to the 2001 Space Odyssey, close your eyes and take it all in. When you’re walking across the Horseshoe to class, put your phone in your pocket and take it all in. When you’re sitting at the pool, enjoying the sunshine with friends, take it all in. You only have a few years here, so make the most of them. And trust me when I say that four years go by way faster than you think.

As my time as an undergraduate at the University of South Carolina comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on my four years here. I have made amazing friends, met some of the most incredible people and been a part of some pretty outstanding organizations. But most importantly, this university has given me the opportunity to grow — as a person and as a leader. I couldn't be more thankful for the countless mentors I've had along the way and the university that made it all possible. University of South Carolina — it's going to be hard to say goodbye.

Forever to thee,

Megan O’Brien
