USC names graduate research center after 12 years

After 12 years of being known only by an acronym, the Graduate Sciences Research Center has officially been named for former USC President John Palms.

USC’s board of trustees approved the name for the $33 million research center, home to the chemistry and biochemistry departments, during a called Building and Grounds committee meeting Friday morning. The building was erected on Sumter Street in 2000.

Palms was president of the university from 1991 to 2002 and is known for advocating the value-centered management system for the university’s budget.
