Americans unhappy with Obama re-election
If at first you don’t succeed, try, try and secede?
That appears to be the new motto adapted by the 20 states whose residents have recently filed petitions to secede from the United States. The movement started with the state of Louisiana, in a petition posted to the White House Petitions page. It was created by Michael E., a resident of Slidell, La., and posted last Wednesday following the re-election of President Obama. As of Nov. 12, the petition, which only needs 25,000 signatures by Dec. 7 to be considered by the presidents, has already gained more than 20,000 signatures.
The new White House website program “We the People” allows citizens to petition the Obama administration, and after it gains enough support, the “White House staff will review it, ensure it’s sent to the appropriate policy experts and issue an official response.”
The first amendment gives people the right to peacefully assemble and petition the Government about their grievances. It appears more than a quarter of the states in the country have taken advantage of these rights granted by our founding fathers.
While the individual petitions have yet to reach the number of signatures needed, the message is clear: Americans are not happy with the re-election of President Obama. Our country was founded on principals like the freedom of speech, and this is a peaceful way citizens are demonstrating their disapproval of the government.
