SG candidates to debate next week; elections approaching this month
Students from all across the campus endured bone-chilling rain and wind to suppport Chase Mizzell’s presidential campaign kickoff — and maybe snag some free barbecue, too.
Mizzell, the current study body vice president, donned a typical blue, crosshatched bow tie for his rally in the Honors Residence Hall Thursday night.
“I was really excited, because even with the weather, a lot of people came out to support and be a part of something great,” Mizzell said, referring to his campaign slogan.
Supporters at the event were given T-shirts, posters and cups — several filled with sweet tea, courtesy of food catered by Palmetto Pig — all printed with Mizzell’s “Be a Part of Something Great” logo.
Steven Vanderlip, Mizzell’s chief of staff and co-campaign manager, estimated that more than 65 students attended the event, given how many T-shirts the staff gave away. They even ran out of barbecue and had to order a couple of pizzas for latecomers.
Mizzell plans to campaign on Greene Street Thursday and hold a tailgate for the first USC baseball game of the season next Friday.
The SG executive candidate debate will be held Feb. 13 on the Russell House Patio at 5 p.m. Elections will take place on VIP on Feb. 19 and 20.
