Fans send off women's basketball team before tournament

The weather was gameday perfect as the Gamecock community awaited the doors of the Carolina Coliseum to open in support of the women’s basketball team.

From garnet and black jumpsuits, to face paint and gameday-colored hair, students showered the team with their support. Even President Harris Pastides joined the crowd to show his support.

“Being the No. 1 seed in any region is a breakthough, and it also proves that we can reach new heights.” Pastides said.

From Gamecock calls to cheering on the women’s sand volleyball team who headed to their own game after expressing their support, the event conveyed a sense of community among young and older Gamecock fans.

“There’s a chemistry going on between players and fans that I’ve never seen before,” Pastides said. “I know that a lot of students will join them, but I hope that they can feel the love while competing in Seattle.”
