Earlier this month, USC permanently closed a parking lot by the Carolina Coliseum (lot C), and another (lot D) will close later this year. The closures add to a decrease of 2,100 parking spots over the last three years.

Construction on the 878-bed housing project on USC’s west campus is set to begin in fall 2015 and will change up parking accommodations around the Carolina Coliseum, according to a university release.

The project will open in two phases, with the first opening in fall 2015 behind the Carolina Coliseum, close to Greek Village and the new Darla Moore School of Business. The second phase is planned to open in the fall of 2016.

The “C” surface parking lot directly behind the Carolina Coliseum bordered by Devine, Park, Blossom and Lincoln streets will be permanently closed as of Saturday, April 5. All cars must be moved from the lot to make room for construction.

Faculty, staff and students with parking decals including “S,” “N,” “Z,” “GS” and “CS” will be able to park in the Discovery Plaza parking garage for the rest of the semester at no additional charge. After May 11, anyone who wants to park in the Discovery garage must purchase a decal from Parking Services.

Those faculty and staff who park in the N section of the “C” lot will be reassigned to the adjacent “B” lot. The “A” lot will remain unchanged.

A parking lot on Gadsden Street near the corner of Greene Street will be converted to a faculty and staff parking lot starting on Aug. 11, as the “D” lot behind the Carolina Coliseum will close permanently for the second construction phase.

Upon its completion in fall 2016, the housing project will include around 700 parking spaces for residents.

In terms of on-campus parking other than the Gadsden Street lot, permits can be purchased for several other parking facilities, including Discovery Plaza Garage, Horizon Garage, Blossom Street Garage, Pendleton Street Garage, Senate Street Garage and Athletic Village Garage.
