Gamecocks run wild on bases against Davidson

The No. 16 ranked South Carolina baseball team picked up its 17th win of the season with a 15-2 win over Davidson. The Gamecocks continued to stay hot offensively, finishing the game with 19 hits. The team has now had 10 or more hits in 11 of their 19 games this season and boasts a team batting average of .314.

The Gamecocks were highly aggressive on the base paths and put pressure on Davidson by stealing six bases. Junior outfielder Dom Thompson-Williams stole three bags.

The Gamecocks elected to let several pitchers get work during the game. Junior transfer Colie Bowers made his first ever start on the mound for the Gamecocks, going two innings before being relieved by junior Matt Vogel in the third. Vogel then worked out a bases loaded jam without yielding a run. He threw two innings total and gave up one run before being relieved by sophomore Tyler Haswell, who pitched four innings while giving up one run. Freshman Kyle Anderson made his second appearance on the year and worked a clean ninth inning.

Davidson used nine pitchers to try and slow down the Gamecock hitters, but to no avail. Senior Marcus Mooney led the Gamecocks with four hits and freshman outfielder TJ Hopkins added three hits of his own.  Another four Gamecocks had two hits apiece, including junior center fielder Gene Cone who also had four RBI.

The Gamecocks handled their business during their two midweek games this week and are now primed to take on the No. 14 ranked Arkansas Razorbacks this weekend in a three game series at Founders Park.
