Richland 1 schools resume regular schedule

Tuesday marks the return of the Richland 1 School District to its regular schedule, The State reports. The district was forced to close by Hurricane Matthew, and the district says they will work with families when it comes to absences caused by the ongoing effects of the storm. One elementary school in the district is still without power.

One killed, another injured at Calhoun County truck stop

A Craigslist transaction turned deadly at a truck stop in Calhoun County late Monday, WIS reports. Two men reportedly met at the stop off I-26 to negotiate a sale when things got heated and shots rang out. One of the men died from his injuries. Officials from the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department are still investigating the incident.

Statewide burning ban issued

Despite a wet weekend, the entire state of South Carolina is under a burning ban, The Post and Courier reports. The South Carolina Forestry Commission issued the ban to limit extra work for emergency personnel working on Hurricane Matthew recovery. The ban doesn't prevent activities such as grilling or campfires, but it prohibits the burning of lawn waste, including debris from the storm.
