Fall Week of Action raises awareness of sexual assault

The Fall Week of Action, hosted by USC It's On Us, commences this week with five days of events geared toward raising sexual assault awareness.

It's On Us arrived at USC shortly following the national campaign's founding in 2014. The campus chapter grew under Student Body President Michael Parks and began hosting the Week of Action in 2016.

The week kicks off Monday at 4 p.m. with a kickball tournament at the Greene Street fields. Registration for teams closed at 9 p.m. Sunday.

Each of the week's following events is co-sponsored by USC's Momentum Series, beginning with the Supporting Survivors Candlelight Vigil outside Rutledge Chapel on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday features a self-defense class hosted by women's self-defense organization Surviving Assault and Standing Strong and the USC College Panhellenic Association. The class begins runs from 3 to 5 p.m. in Room 116 of the Strom Thurmond Fitness Center.

Playwright Heather Marlowe visits campus Thursday for a performance of her one-woman play "The Haze." Marlowe, a UCLA alum, wrote "The Haze" after becoming frustrated with the San Francisco Police Department's slow pace in investigating her 2010 rape. The performance begins at 7 p.m. in Russell House Theater.

The Fall Week of Action wraps up Friday with a workshop hosted by bystander accountability initiative Stand Up Carolina at Russell House beginning at 4 p.m.
