Recap: New SG executive cabinet meets to discuss summer planning

Tuesday marked the first executive cabinet meeting of the 2020-2021 Student Government administration.

The meeting was mostly introductory, and the secretaries’ planning measures for next semester were discussed. Chief of staff Hannah O’ Toole said planning for next semester would begin before the end of May.

“Me and [Student Body President Issy Rushton] ... are hoping to meet with each and every one of you — just for a half hour, hour long meeting — to talk about what your goals are for the year, start to see what you're outlining for your timeline and getting a better idea of how much guidance you need; if you need assistance,” O’Toole said.

The university is utilizing Student Government executives in its Future Planning Group, which makes recommendations regarding the future of USC amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rushton said the cabinet’s contact with university administration should keep this planning in mind.

“We need to be touch-and-go about contacting upper level administration, because we need to make sure that … our programming and dreams align with the future of what’s going to happen,” Rushton said.

The Future Planning Group consists of seven committees, with at least one member of Student Government on each committee, including Rushton, treasurer Caden Askew and health and wellness secretary Payton Ramsey.
