The 2016 baseball season did not end the way South Carolina fans might have hoped as the team was bounced from the postseason in a two-game sweep at the hands of the Oklahoma State Cowboys. While the Gamecocks were playing at home in Founders Park, making the loss tougher to swallow, this team accomplished its most important goal: Bringing South Carolina back to the national landscape.

2015 was a down year for the South Carolina baseball team. The Gamecocks put together a 32-25 record and missed the NCAA Baseball Tournament for the first time since 1999. As the successor to the incredibly accomplished Ray Tanner, last year's campaign put head coach Chad Holbrook on the hot seat, and he fell out of favor with a number of fans.

Sophomore Tyler Johnson did the South Carolina baseball team and head coach Chad Holbrook a huge favor Sunday night, spinning a complete game to force a winner-take-all rematch with UNCW on Monday. However, the Gamecocks certainly aren't out of the woods yet.

In a weekend where things haven’t exactly gone right for South Carolina, their bats came to life in their second must-win game. The Gamecocks eliminated the Rhode Island Rams 23-2, setting the record for the most runs scored in a postseason regional.

For eight innings, Saturday's contest between the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Duke Blue Devils looked a lot like the Gamecocks' loss to Rhode Island the night before. However, clutch hitting gave the story a different ending — a happier one for South Carolina fans — as the Gamecocks won 4-2.

For the first time since facing James Madison in 1983, the Gamecocks lost their regional opener game, losing 5-4. Despite an early 4-0 lead, South Carolina couldn't get a win against Rhode Island on Friday night.

The South Carolina baseball team got off to a great start in Friday's regional opener against Rhode Island when they hit two home runs in the first inning and jumped out to a 4-0 lead by the end of the third. From then on, it was a sad night to be a Gamecock fan. The visitors tagged Clarke Schmidt for five runs in the fourth and fifth innings, and South Carolina never recovered, losing 5-4.

After a poor showing in Hoover at the SEC Baseball Tournament, the South Carolina baseball team was not selected as one of the eight national seeds for the NCAA tournament, despite winning the SEC East and finishing with a 20-9 record in conference play. However, the Gamecocks will play in Columbia for at least one more weekend. The team was selected as a regional host as the Gamecocks look to get back to Omaha for the first time since 2012.

The South Carolina baseball team will spend another weekend in Columbia, as the NCAA announced Sunday night that the Gamecocks are one of 16 regional hosts. Unfortunately for the team, South Carolina was not selected as one of the eight national seeds, meaning they are not guaranteed to host a super regional.

Hoover, Alabama, the site of the SEC Baseball Tournament, hasn't been kind to the Gamecocks in recent years.Coach Chad Holbrook hasn't won a game in the tournament in his coaching career, losing seven games straight in Hoover since 2012.

Texas Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor became a household name Sunday when his fist connected with Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista's jaw, igniting a brawl that would result in multiple ejections. Not only was Sunday's game the final of seven that the two teams will play this regular season, it was also the final chapter of a baseball saga that dates back to last season's ALDS (yes, the one that took place seven months ago).

Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman responded to the critics Tuesday night when he belted two home runs, raising his batting average to a whopping .235 and his season home run total to three. His pedestrian .288 on-base percentage is over 100 points below second baseman Daniel Murphy's batting average, and while that is in part due to a hot start from Washington's new acquisition, Zimmerman isn't exactly setting the world on fire.

In a thrilling matchup between No. 1 Florida and No. 3 South Carolina, the Gamecocks suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 defeat when they surrendered a ninth inning lead to the Gators. Florida trailed for nearly the whole game after falling behind in the first, but a pair of home runs off of South Carolina closer Josh Reagan accelerated a late rally and they claimed the series opener.
