Feminism would have led to more dead women on the Titanic. Health insurance covering contraception is an insult to women. Democrats think women cannot control their libido. Beyonce’s music is toxic. Every single illegal immigrant needs to be deported. The Constitution should become more like the Bible. God has the power to nullify the Supreme Court’s decisions. The IRS needs to be abolished. Gay people are basically just struggling with an unhealthy addiction, like alcoholics are. Asking a Christian to accept gay marriage in the country is equivalent to mandating that Jewish delis serve bacon. AIDS carriers should be quarantined. Transgender people are faking it to peek in locker rooms. Actual child molesters, though, should be immune to media scrutiny, if they are repentant to God.

Senator Ted Cruz
represents, in many ways, the extremes of the current field. He was the first
candidate to enter the race. According to 538 he is also more conservative than any other major candidate this cycle as
well as every post-Eisenhower Republican nominee. He even makes Ronald Reagan look
downright moderate when you start comparing stances. Unlike Dr. Ben Carson there isn’t much of interest in Cruz’s early life. He was born to an
American mother and Cuban father in Canada, which can be off-putting for Tea Partiers who spent the last decade arguing about President Obama’s citizenship.
Cruz went to Princeton University and became a top-tier debater there. At
Harvard Law School he came very close to winning the global debating championships.

Dr. Ben Carson, the only major African-American candidate this election cycle, might have the most interesting backstory of any Republican running for president. He grew up in Detroit in a single mother household. His mother only had a third grade education and at times worked three jobs to pay the bills. Early on Carson did terribly in school, but his mother made him read two library books a week and in time he learned to love reading.

In the last few months, The Daily Gamecock’s Opinion section has hosted articles addressing race in the policing of Ferguson and the legal protection of hate speech in the U.S.

Throughout the history of the gay rights movement, critics have lobbed more or less the same criticisms at it. One of the most popular is that if we let the gays marry, pretty soon we’ll be permitting polygamy, incest and bestiality.

In January, Gov. Nikki Haley announced her willingness to see a modest increase in the gasoline tax if paired with a massive income tax cut. This is a notable reversal after adamantly campaigning against the gas tax in her re-election bid.

In a matter of months, the U.S. Supreme Court may make same-sex marriages legal in every state.
