Developing: The Hub at Columbia floods

The Hub at Columbia was wracked by flooding Wednesday afternoon, some days after a hurricane-induced weather event struck most of the state. A water main break occurred on the second floor of the building.

The situation has since been contained, according to the Richland County Sheriff's department's twitter. Water has been restored to the building, according to an email sent to tenants.

"Unfortunately," the email reads, "the water infiltrated electrical panels within the building that has impacted hallway lights, stairwell lights and the elevator power."

The elevators were closed down Wednesday afternoon, which may spell problems for residents who live on the upper floors of the 21-story complex. Residents have been advised not to use plumbing.

Correction: A previous version of this story implied that "evacuation route" signs posted in The Hub stairwells were put up in reference to the flooding. They were put up before the flooding occurred. The Daily Gamecock regrets the error.
