The new freshman class has more than 7,000 students, making it the largest in school history. Changes to the university have already been made to help support the larger increase in students, including the opening of Campus Village in 2023. However, discussions surrounding how to cater to students in all areas of campus are still ongoing.
Beginning in the fall of 2024, USC will start accepting the top 10% of all South Carolina high school graduating classes. The policy is being implemented to broaden higher education access to all in-state students.

The proposed Bull Street health science campus in Columbia hopes to improve research for USC and provide improved medical care to the state. The campus will have two buildings, one primarily for research and the other mainly for education, likely connected by an atrium.
