State park fire kills animals, destroys property

A fire at a nature center in Huntington Beach State Park killed many of the animals inside it, The State reports. Lightning has been ruled the probable cause of the early morning fire that destroyed the building. Various breeds of reptiles housed at the center didn't survive the blaze.

Woman arrested in animal cruelty case

A Richland County woman was arrested after four dogs died in her home, WIS reports. The woman, who turned herself in to authorities, faces four counts of ill treatment of animals. She is accused of leaving the dogs alone without food, air conditioning or water for a month.

Popular ice cream brand returning to the Carolinas

Blue Bell ice cream is making its way back onto shelves across the Carolinas, WLTX reports. The brand was pulled after a listeria outbreak last year, but it will return to South and North Carolina in September. The company will also reopen its Columbia area distribution center.
