Cancer awareness walk raises hundreds of thousands

The 21st Annual Walk for Life raised more than $600,000 for breast cancer research in the Midlands, WIS reports. This year's event, attended by more than 7,000, was held at Spirit Communications Park and featured a marathon, 5-K and 10-K. Donations from the event will go towards new 3-D digital mammography technology at the Palmetto Health Breast Center.

One killed in Sumter interstate crash

One person was killed in a single car crash on I-95 in Sumter County, WLTX reports. A passenger in a moving truck was ejected from the truck when it skid off the road and overturned. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck's driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Pre-trial hearings begin in Walter Scott shooting case

Pre-trial hearings were held Friday in the case of Walter Scott's death in North Charleston, The Post and Courier reports. The hearings involved the introduction of evidence to be presented during the trial as well as testimony. Former North Charleston Michael Slager allegedly shot and killed Scott during a traffic stop. The trial begins on Oct. 31.
