UofSCRelief reactivates to gather donations, volunteers in preparation for Hurricane Matthew

The student-run volunteer organization created last October during the historic flooding has begun to remobilize in order to serve the Carolina community in the case of damage caused by Hurricane Matthew.

Fourth-year sociology and Russian student Cory Alpert founded UofSC Relief to help students get involved in rebuilding efforts. Last year, over 2,500 students volunteered at over 25 different locations.

"This is about USC giving back to not just the city of Columbia but the entire state of South Carolina," Alpert said.

While the need over the next few days is still uncertain, UofSC Relief is hoping to have several thousand volunteers on hand. Alpert is also in the process of organizing a system to send donations to Charleston. He is hoping to organize a relief trip to Charleston in the aftermath of the hurricane.

Donations needed include:

  • Clothing
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Bottled water

Students interested in volunteering can sign up here.
