Football game will take place in Columbia, announcement on date and time expected Thursday morning

There is currently no change to South Carolina’s football game versus Georgia, which is scheduled to take place Saturday at 7:30 pm at Williams-Brice Stadium. An announcement from the university is expected Thursday morning regarding the time and date of the football game, though the location of the game is not in question.

It has been confirmed that the game will take place in Columbia, erasing much speculation that it could get moved to Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia.

In a press conference Wednesday, Gov. Nicki Haley announced that no state officers would be supplied to the University for the game. This has forced the university to gauge whether they have enough officers to control traffic and public safety. Contingency plans have been put in place, calling for the use of school resource officers and local officers in training if needed.

On providing security for the game, Sheriff Leon Lott said, “Right now, it is too premature to make a decision as to resources available. We will continue to monitor the hurricane and be in conversations with USC.”

So far, South Carolina baseball, equestrian and volleyball have rescheduled their games and scrimmages to take place on later dates.
