The 2016 season resembled the golden age of walk-up song creativity for the South Carolina baseball program, highlighted by former starting pitcher Braden Webb's self-composed Christian rap entrance jam. Reed Scott cemented his status as the quintessential '90s baby by making the "Space Jam" theme song synonymous with the seventh inning at Founders Park. Scott's theme, fortunately, will return in 2017.

The last time Wil Crowe pitched in a game at Founders Park, back in March of 2015 against Georgia, it was still Carolina Stadium. His battery mate Chris Cullen was still in high school. He had seven different fielders standing behind him, although junior left fielder Alex Destino did appear in that game as a pinch hitter.

Gamecock Nation was spoiled for those final three years under Ray Tanner, as the South Carolina baseball team reached three straight College World Series finals, winning two back-to-back while creating a national powerhouse. The Gamecocks would host a Super Regional in three of the next four seasons, including last year, only missing out in the disappointment of 2015.

South Carolina's outfield rotation will include the following players in 2017: Carlos Cortes, a highly-rated ambidextrous freshman with a right-handed glove for the infield and a left-handed glove for the outfield; Brandon McIlwain, a dual-sport athlete who is also a dual-threat quarterback who started conference games as a freshman; Alex Destino, a preseason all-SEC slugger who has played the infield, outfield and pitched at South Carolina; and Danny Blair, a sophomore positioned to captain the outfield in center who is also one of the fastest pure runners on the team.

Brandon McIlwain's first semester of college: graduated a semester early from Council Rock North High School in Newton, Pennsylvania, made the the decision to pass up a likely seven-figure signing bonus by withdrawing from the MLB Draft, enrolled in his first college classes, made his preseason collegiate baseball debut in his first month on campus, learned a new offense in football workouts and then passed for two touchdowns in the Garnet & Black Spring Game. He wouldn't even turn 18 until a few weeks after the semester ended.
