Emily Supil is running unopposed.
Thankfully, we unanimously believe Supil is the right person for the job.
As treasurer, Supil is in charge of planning and organizing the Student Government budget. She's also expected to work with student organizations across campus to allocate funds and help make initiatives happen within SG. We believe her work as Senate Finance chair certainly qualifies her for the position as she has previously approved the budget and allocated funds. From our conversations with others, she was efficient and effective at doing this, just as her campaign promises she will be as treasurer.
As we said before, Supil had no competition for the job. But she's still visited dozens of campus organizations, talked with hundreds of students and made her name known in the student body. Campaigning with no competition takes initiative, and we applaud Supil for her efforts.
It's not an endorsement without reservations. Supil was short on specifics when it came to the ins and outs of her next position.
But we think Supil will quickly learn the details of her job and become an effective student body treasurer.
